On June 19, 2008, the Community Advisory Board (CAB) of Downtown Hospital recognized Mr. Frank T. Modica, LMSW, Executive Director of Hamilton-Madison House and CAB member, with the Audrey P. Rosenfield Award for Outstanding Community Service. Mr. Herbert Rosenfield, Hospital Trustee and Chair of the Hospital's CAB, established the Award in memory of his wife, who dedicated herself to improving the diverse neighborhoods of Lower Manhattan through charitable works and philanthropy.
Bruce Logan, M.D., Chair of the Department of Medicine, acknowledged Mr. Modica's extensive contributions to the Hospital and the community. He noted that Mr. Modica has been the Executive Director of Hamilton-Madison House for 31 years. During his tenure, Hamilton-Madison House has grown from an operating budget of little more than $1 million to approximately $14 million. Mr. Modica is on the board of a number of local, national and international organizations including the United Neighborhood Centers of America and the International Federation of Settlements and Neighborhood Centers. He has been Chairman of the Board of Two Bridges Neighborhood Council for 24 years and has played a critical role in building 1,500 units of low- and moderate-income housing. Under his leadership, the range of social services provided by Hamilton-Madison House has constantly adapted to the changing needs of the community.
