The Lehman Brothers Emergency CenterAs the only hospital in Lower Manhattan, New York Downtown Hospital is the first responder to virtually every medical emergency in the area, providing life-saving care for 30,000 emergency patients each year. More than 50% of the Hospital's emergency patients come from the Lower Manhattan business community. In 2003, Downtown Hospital broke ground on The Lehman Brothers Emergency Center, a new state-of-the-art emergency facility. The new ER will be double the size of the existing center and will include dedicated areas for chest pain, asthma, women, and children. The new facility will also include a decontamination unit and other improvements to enhance the Hospital's ability to respond to both individual and community-wide emergencies. The $25 million project has been made possible by a leadership gift of $5 million from The Lehman Brothers Foundation, as well as by major donations from many other generous organizations, businesses, and individuals.
