Downtown Hospital Appoints Jeffrey Menkes As New President and Chief Executive Officer

The Board of Trustees of New York Downtown Hospital is pleased to announce that Jeffrey Menkes will be the new President and Chief Executive Officer for Lower Manhattan's only hospital. Mr. Menkes will officially assume this role on May 7, 2007.

“Downtown Hospital has been on a steady course of improvement and expansion,” said Robert D. Hunter, Chairman of the Downtown Hospital Board of Trustees. “The Trustees and I have every confidence that Mr. Menkes possesses the skills and experience necessary to build on this positive momentum.”

Mr. Menkes has more than 30 years of experience in the healthcare industry in the New York metropolitan area. His broad background in the field includes all aspects of hospital operations, strategic planning and growth, as well as mergers and affiliations. He has been a key member of senior administration leadership at Continuum Health Partners, Inc., The Mount Sinai Hospital, North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System, Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, Jacobi Hospital and Elmhurst Hospital. Mr. Menkes also managed one of the largest physician-owned medical malpractice insurance carriers in the United States, Physician Reciprocal Insurers (PRI).

Mr. Menkes has a Master of Business Administration degree in Health Care Administration from Bernard M. Baruch College and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Political Science from Herbert H. Lehman College of the City University of New York. He joins Downtown Hospital from PricewaterhouseCoopers where he served as a healthcare consultant to New York metropolitan area hospitals. Previously, Mr. Menkes was the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Beth Israel Medical Center where he spearheaded the formation of the Asian Initiative, among many other successful growth projects.

Bruce D. Logan, M.D., who has admirably served as the Hospital President and Chief Executive Officer for the past three and a half years, will resume his position as the Chief of Medicine. Mr. Hunter said, “Dr. Logan provided strong leadership during a complex and challenging period in the Hospital's history. We are deeply grateful for his leadership and for his commitment to the Hospital.” During Dr. Logan's tenure, the Hospital accomplished many important strategic and quality initiatives including the sale of its parking lot, the recruitment of excellent new clinical and administrative leaders, the completion of the new $25 million Lehman Brothers Emergency Center, and the establishment of a new affiliation with the prestigious NewYork-Presbyterian Healthcare System. Dr. Logan will work closely with Mr. Menkes on the development and implementation of strategic clinical business opportunities for the Hospital.

Downtown Hospital also announced that Jane Connorton will be stepping down as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. Together with Dr. Logan, Ms. Connorton was instrumental in helping the Hospital attain greater financial stability. She dramatically reduced expenses while maintaining the quality of care at the Hospital, and also worked closely with Nursing Leadership to expand the Hospital's capabilities and expertise in this critical area of patient care.

“Working closely with our dedicated senior staff, and with the support of the entire Hospital team, Mr. Menkes will help ensure that Downtown Hospital continues to fulfill its mission of providing quality health care to all of Lower Manhattan, and continues to develop its relationship with the NewYork-Presbyterian Healthcare System. His impressive talents will lead Downtown Hospital to an even more financially secure and successful future,” concluded Mr. Hunter
