Emergency Preparedness SymposiumOn September 10, 2009, New York Downtown Hospital conducted the 7th Annual International Emergency Preparedness Symposium at the Goldman Sachs Training Center in Lower Manhattan. This year, our featured speakers discussed and reviewed the medical, governmental, corporate and social responses to an Influenza pandemic and the actions planned to protect the public. Keynoting our list of speakers were Dr. Marcelle Layton, Assistant Commissioner, Bureau of Communicable Disease, of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene; and Dr. Guthrie Birkhead, Deputy Commissioner, Office of Public Health, New York State Department of Health. This year's full list of topics and speakers is available here. More than 235 participants attended this event at which nine specialists in the fields of H1N1 Influenza and emergency response presented. Since 2003, the Hospital has brought together emergency preparedness specialists from all over the world to share their expertise to better prepare health care professionals, emergency response personnel, and community leaders for future emergencies. For further information on this annual event, please contact Ms. Richards at [email protected]. The Hospital is most grateful to The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc., for the contribution of their educational center for the presentation of this Symposium. |
