Hospital Expands Ambulance Fleet
As part of its commitment to FDNY to maintain its 911 coverage of the Lower Manhattan area, Downtown Hospital has put a new ambulance into service. This Basic Life Support (BLS) unit will be on 24-hour duty at Catherine Street and East Broadway, and will bring the size of the Hospital's ambulance fleet to six. On July 15, the Rev. Reynaldo Domagas, Volunteer Hospital Chaplain and Pastoral Associate at Our Lady of Victory Church, offered a blessing for the new ambulance, its team and future passengers. Present for the ceremony were Mr. Jeffrey Menkes; Mr. Antonio Suarez, Director of EMS and Emergency Management; Antonio Dajer, M.D., Chairman of the Emergency Department; and Arlene Eastman, RN, Director of Emergency Services. They were accompanied by members of the Hospital's EMS Team. In 2008, the Hospital was responsible for more than 5,500 ambulance dispatches through the 911 system.
