FellowshipsEMPIRE CLINICAL RESEARCH INVESTIGATOR PROGRAM (ECRIP) AWARD The New York Downtown Hospital is pleased to announce the 2006-2007 Empire Clinical Research Investigator Program (ECRIP) award. This prestigious award is sponsored by a competitive grant from the New York State Department of Health (DOH) and is designed to promote the development of clinical researchers in New York The ECRIP program was initiated to encourage teaching hospitals to train physicians as clinical researchers to advance biomedical research in New York's academic health centers. The goal of the Downtown Hospital's ECRIP program is to foster the career of physicians who are in the early stages of their research careers and who are capable of eventually leading research initiatives that will improve the health, well-being, and safety of patients and simultaneously promote the delivery of high quality medical care. The Downtown Hospital is a premier research institution. Successful past and current research projects include infectious diseases, oncology, transplant surgery, pathology and other areas. The Hospital Research Department is routinely invited to present its research at both national and international research meetings and is the recipient of both national and international awards. Most recently, the Downtown Hospital was also the first research institution to enroll patients in a multi-center respiratory trial, and the first to perform curative cancer surgery on a pregnant uterus. The Downtown Hospital ECRIP candidate must be a U.S. citizen, national, or permanent resident of the United States who is enrolled in a residency program in NY State or is a graduate of a New York based residency; or currently reside in NYS. The fellow must demonstrate an interest and awareness of the research process.
