SARAH FERGUSON, DUCHESS OF YORK, ATTENDED NEW YORK DOWNTOWN HOSPITAL 14th ANNUAL GALA
Freedom Tower Architect David M. Childs, Dr. Bruce D. Logan, Dr. Victor I. Rosenberg, honored for lifetime achievements and contributions to Lower Manhattan Community.
Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, honored New York Downtown Hospital (NYDH) with her presence at downtown Manhattan's only hospital's 14th Annual Gala, held on Thursday, October 11, at Cipriani Wall Street, 55 Wall Street in New York City.
Elizabeth Blackwell MD Medal, New York Downtown Hospital's highest honor, named for America's first woman physician and founder of NYDH's precursor, was awarded to Bruce D. Logan, M.D., in recognition of his medical expertise, compassionate care, wise stewardship, and teaching excellence in Dr. Blackwell's tradition. Dr. Logan has served the Downtown community and NYDH with dedication for over 30 years, as a physician, Chief Medical Officer, and President and CEO.
The Distinguished Physician Award was presented to Victor I. Rosenberg, M.D., nationally recognized as a brilliant and innovative physician in the field of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. For 44 years, Dr. Rosenberg has served his patients and Downtown Hospital with distinction.
The Community Service Award was presented to architect David M. Childs, FAIA, Consulting Design Partner of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, for his architectural masterpiece Freedom Tower at Ground Zero, a monument to the determination and courage of our city and the world.
The Gala, chaired by Trustee Giovanna Cipriani, Executive Vice President of Cipriani USA., marks the 150th anniversary of the founding of The New York Infirmary for Indigent Women and Children, New York Downtown Hospital's forerunner, by Dr. Blackwell.
New York Downtown Hospital, the only hospital in Lower Manhattan, is a community teaching hospital, offering a broad range of inpatient and outpatient services and is a leader in emergency preparedness and disaster management. Downtown Hospital is an academic affiliate of the Weill Medical College of Cornell University and is a member of the prestigious NewYork-Presbyterian Healthcare System.
Downtown Hospital serves the area's diverse neighborhoods including Wall Street, Battery Park City, Chinatown, SoHo, TriBeCa, Little Italy, and the Lower East Side. It is the acute care facility closest to the Financial District, to the seat of the City government, and to some of New York's most popular tourist attractions. It is the first responder to nearly every medical emergency in the area.
Downtown Hospital provides approximately 175,000 outpatient visits and 7,000 surgical procedures annually. In addition, as Lower Manhattan's only Emergency Department, the Lehman Brothers Emergency Center treats 33,000 patients every year, responding to 5,000 911 dispatches annually.
